Bishops Caundle lies in the heart of the White Hart Vale Dorset; "the vale of the little dairies" as described by Thomas Hardy in Tess of the d'Ubervilles and is about 5 miles to the south east of Sherborne. There has been a community here since Doomsday times nestling in the rolling wooded countryside of west Dorset and currently has a population of approximately 390-400.
Of all the villages in the White Hart Vale it is unique in that it has a Church, a Church Primary School, a community shop owned by the village, a pub, a petrol service station and garage.
