Meet Our Team
Reverend Richard Kirlew
Welcome to our church here in Bishops Caundle! Let me give you a brief resume of me and my previous life.
I am originally from York and am proud of my northern roots. Following an education at the Minster School, where he became Head Server at the Minster, I went to Askham Bryan Agricultural College and studied machinery and crop production. Following some years with an agricultural contractor, I joined the Ambulance Service and worked at several ambulance stations throughout North Yorkshire. Then I was elected as the first full-time National Secretary of a staff association representing ambulance staff. That led us to Somerset where I was, after much protesting(!), finally “collared” and ordained in Wells Cathedral in 2005. In Bath and Wells Diocese I served my curacy and also as Chair of the Diocesan Rural Life Group. 2008 saw me move to Swansea and Brecon diocese as Rural Life Advisor and fifteen months later became National Lead on Rural Life to the Church in Wales.
I arrived in Salisbury diocese in 2015 to take up a House for Duty Team Vicar Post in the Three Valleys Benefice, where I also have the Chaplaincy in Salisbury Livestock Centre. I’m married to Liz, a Health Care Assistant and Lay Worship Leader. We have two children and three grandchildren.
I love parish life and am very privileged to be able to serve in Bishops Caundle. If you are new, either to church or this parish, then please see my contact details and please be in touch.
